Unleash Power at Work: Experience the Thrill of the 640 Horsepower Audi Beast Racer

You’ll soon be able to take a Le Mans race car for a spin around town, courtesy of ABT Sportsline.

The limited-edition XGT, the German tuner and motorsports company’s interpretation of the Audi R8 GT2, was just unveiled.

The car, which the store refers to as the “quintessence of [its] heritage,” has many positive features, but our favorite is that it was meant to be driven. Yes, the XGT is a street-legal Le Mans competitor.

For years, ABT has been releasing extensively modified builds based on Audi and Volkswagen vehicles, but none of them have garnered the same level of attention as the XGT.

The reason for this is evident from a quick look at the vehicle, which The Drive claims the tuner has been testing out at the Nürburgring this autumn. Like the race car it is based on, the XGT is essentially a R8 with an absurd aero kit installed.

It has an enormous rear wing, a massive roof scoop, and a sculpted hood that give it an extremely athletic and muscular appearance.

Naturally, the XGT is not an exact replica of the R8 GT2. The car has undergone a number of changes from ABT in order to be road legal.

It still has a 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V-10 engine that generates 640 horsepower. This engine is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox that powers the rear axle. However, the racing fuel system has been replaced with the standard sports car’s.

Additionally, a unique exhaust system that complies with emission standards has been added.

Although the interior of the car is just as minimalist as that of an Audi race car, it is furnished with several creature comforts that will make your daily commute more enjoyable.

These consist of turn signals, an electronically adjustable side-view mirror, a handbrake rear-view camera, and air conditioning. Also, the engine immobilizer and door locks make it unnecessary for you to worry about someone stealing your car while you’re running errands. Even with all the changes, the vehicle weighs only 3,086 pounds.

ABT intends to construct just 99 XGTs. Although the production run starts at €598,000 (approximately $656,000), it should move along quickly. The car won’t be available in North America, which is unfortunate, but we have a sneaking suspicion that enthusiasts in Europe won’t mind at all.
